History of the Making of

Phra Somdej M16, Nur Phong, B.E. 2546

Wat Rakang Kositaram, Bangkok

Ceremony Led by Luang Phor Moon, Wat Ban Jan

In the year B.E. 2546 (2003), a special batch of sacred amulets known as Phra Somdej M16 was created and consecrated at Wat Rakang Kositaram, Bangkok—one of the most historically significant temples in Thailand, famously associated with Somdej Phra Buddhacharn (Toh Prommarangsi).

This batch was unique for its modern commemorative concept, referencing “M16” not as a weapon but symbolically as a powerful spiritual shield—intended to represent indestructible spiritual protection in turbulent times.

Sacred Materials (Nur Phong)

The amulets were made from Nur Phong, a sacred powder mixture that included:

  • Phong Puttakhun (sacred powder from previous generations of monks)

  • Phong Itthije and Phong Maharaj (powders charged with protective and authority-invoking mantras)

  • Fragments of earlier Wat Rakang amulets

  • Mixed relic powders from major Thai temples

  • Holy pollen, dried flowers from previous consecration ceremonies, and auspicious herbs

These components were carefully blended to ensure the amulet carried strong properties of metta (loving-kindness), khaew-khlaad (evasion of danger), and kongkraphan (invincibility).

Presiding Master: Luang Phor Moon Tidtasilo

Wat Ban Jan, Sisaket Province

The spiritual heart of the consecration ceremony was Luang Phor Moon, one of the most highly respected monks of the Northeast (Isan) region. At the time of this ceremony, Luang Phor Moon was already over 100 years old, widely recognized for his deep meditative power, unshakable discipline, and unbroken lineage of Dhamma practice from the Thai forest tradition.

His participation in the blessing of this batch was considered highly auspicious, especially as it was one of the final public ceremonies he attended before his passing in B.E. 2546, the same year.

Blessing Ceremony

The consecration ceremony was held at Wat Rakang Kositaram, the spiritual origin of all Phra Somdej amulets. Key highlights of the ceremony included:

  • Multiple days of chanting by senior monks from across the country

  • Principal blessing session led by Luang Phor Moon, who was invited specifically to empower the amulets with his meditative energy and accumulated barami (merit)

  • Rituals performed in strict accordance with the Puttapisek (Buddha image empowerment) tradition, ensuring both canonical precision and mystical efficacy

  • Participation from additional senior monks across different traditions, including Southern, Northern, and Central provinces

This powerful gathering of spiritual forces helped charge the Phra Somdej M16 amulets with high levels of protective energy and blessings of prosperity, safety, and spiritual strength.

Symbolism of “M16”

While “M16” typically refers to a military rifle, in this spiritual context it symbolized:

  • Ultimate spiritual defense—able to counteract unseen dangers, black magic, or karmic obstacles

  • A modern guardian for the practitioner in an era of societal and moral unrest

  • A reminder that true strength comes from Dhamma, not violence

Legacy and Recognition

Due to the rare convergence of sacred materials, historic venue (Wat Rakang), and the presence of Luang Phor Moon, the Phra Somdej M16 BE2546 batch is regarded as a powerful and historically significant contemporary release. It is sought after by collectors and spiritual practitioners alike for:

  • Strong protective qualities

  • Connection to Wat Rakang’s lineage of Phra Somdej

  • The final consecration by Luang Phor Moon

  • Metta and kongkraphan properties suitable for people in all walks of life—soldiers, police officers, businesspeople, and laypersons
