Phra Somdej Pim Wat Ketchaiyo (Back Stamp) • BE 2507 (1964)
Wat Ketchaiyo Worawihan, Ang Thong • Nur Dam (black sacred powder)
Historical Significance
Issued in BE 2507 (1964) for Wat Ketchaiyo Worawihan, this edition was organized under Chao Khun Tieng (CK Tieng), abbot of Wat Rakang. In a formal Putthapisek (consecration rite), the batch supported temple restoration and continued the Somdej lineage inspired by Somdej Phra Phutthachan Toh. It represents a post-war revival approach: respectful of old molds while employing period techniques and sacred powders available in the 1960s.
Reverse — impression shows pressed grain and back-stamp area typical of the “Wat Ketchaiyo” designation.
Contextual Insight: This edition bridges the Bangkok Somdej tradition of Wat Rakang with Ang Thong’s Wat Ketchaiyo style. The wicha (sacred formula) focused on protective blessings and merit-making for temple works. See CK Tieng’s biography for lineage background.
Temple of Origin & Master’s Discipline
Wat Ketchaiyo Worawihan is historically linked to classic Somdej imagery: upright posture, three-tier base, and restrained proportion. Under CK Tieng, the discipline emphasized textual mantras and meditation cycles in kammathana (meditative practice), reflected in the amulet’s austere lines and spiritual intent.
Materials & Craftsmanship
| Material | Nur Dam matrix (scripture ash from bailan manuscripts, incense soot, candle wax, sacred powder admixtures) |
| Mold / Pim | Ketchaiyo-style Somdej: upright torso, compact arch, triple base with modest step depth |
| Consecration | Putthapisek ceremony; Bangkok–Ang Thong monk network led by CK Tieng; protective chant cycles |
Spiritual Function & Doctrinal Purpose
According to Thai Buddhist belief, Somdej carries Klaew Klaad (evasion of dangers), Metta Mahaniyom (loving-kindness & social favor), and Maha Lap (auspicious fortune). Devotees wear it for moral steadiness, calm confidence, and protective blessings.
Rarity & Collector Significance
Assessed as collector-grade within post-war Somdej study. Key tells include the Ketchaiyo arch proportion, triple-step base, charcoal matrix, and stamped reverse. Authenticated examples are periodically seen in competition circles and marketplaces, with well-preserved presses and crisp frames commanding attention.
