Luang Phor Choei of Wat Tha Kwai, Mueang District, Sing Buri Province, was a highly respected monk known for his compassion, humility, strong psychic abilities, and mastery of Buddhist magic. His sacred amulets are considered to hold immense spiritual power, and his reputation endures to this day.
Early Life and Ordination
Birth and Upbringing
Luang Phor Choei was born in 1869 in Sing Buri Province. Sadly, he became an orphan at the age of two when his parents passed away. His uncle took him in and raised him. At the age of 13, his uncle placed him under the care of Luang Phor Daeng of Wat Tha Kwai, who became his mentor and spiritual guide.
Ordination and Studies
At 20 years old, he was ordained as a monk at Wat Tha Kwai, with Luang Phor Daeng as his preceptor. Under Luang Phor Daeng’s guidance, he studied ancient scriptures, meditation, and magical knowledge. Even before his ordination, he had already learned various mystical arts from Luang Phor Daeng.
As he deepened his knowledge, Luang Phor Choei decided to embark on a pilgrimage to further his spiritual training. He traveled through Laos, Cambodia, and Burma, studying and exchanging knowledge with numerous revered monks. One of the most significant figures he encountered was Luang Pu Suk of Wat Pak Khlong Makham Thao, a highly respected monk of that era.
Luang Pu Suk recognized Luang Phor Choei’s exceptional psychic abilities, and the two exchanged knowledge in various mystical disciplines. During his travels, he also formed close friendships with other renowned monks, such as:

Becoming the Abbot of Wat Tha Kwai
Following the passing of Luang Phor Daeng, the villagers of Sing Buri invited Luang Phor Choei to become the abbot of Wat Tha Kwai. As the new leader, he dedicated himself to preserving Buddhist teachings and creating sacred amulets.
Due to his connection with Luang Pu Suk, he also gained the admiration of Admiral Prince of Chumphon, a highly respected royal figure. The Prince ordered skilled craftsmen from Bangkok to create amulet molds for Luang Phor Choei, including:

Famous Amulets of Luang Phor Choei

Villagers near Wat Tha Kwai attempted to cut down a tree to build houses. However, no matter how much they sawed, they could not cut through it. They made vows to spirits and deities, but the tree remained untouched.
Upon closer inspection, they discovered a Phra Pidta amulet placed at the top of the tree. The moment they removed the amulet, the tree fell on its own, astonishing everyone.
This incident reinforced the belief that Luang Phor Choei’s amulets possessed immense protective power, particularly against evil spirits and supernatural forces.
Luang Phor Choei’s Lifestyle and Final Years
Luang Phor Choei was a simple and humble monk who preferred solitude and practiced strict self-discipline. He:

✅ Spent most of his time meditating in seclusion
✅ Created amulets in small batches, carefully consecrating each one before distributing them to his disciples
Luang Phor Choei passed away in 1926 at the age of 57, having spent 35 years as a monk.
Wat Tha Kwai – A Historical Temple
Wat Tha Kwai is an ancient temple built during the late Ayutthaya period, before the fall of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Located on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River, it was originally known as "Wat Tha Kwai", meaning "Buffalo Pier Temple", because villagers often brought their cattle to drink water at the temple pier.
Temple Name Change
In 1938, Wat Tha Kwai received its royal temple boundary and was officially renamed "Wat Sathienwatthanadit".
