Background and Purpose

The Phra Pidta Bai Po was created by Luang Phor Ruesi Lingdam as a sacred object intended to support the spread of Buddhist teachings and temple development at Wat Tha Sung during its rapid restoration phase in the 2510s.

This amulet embodies:

  • Protection from harm and danger

  • Spiritual seclusion (as symbolized by the closed eyes)

  • Connection to enlightenment (symbolized by the Bodhi leaf shape)

The name “Bai Po” refers to the Bodhi leaf under which the Buddha attained enlightenment, making this amulet both protective and auspicious for spiritual progress.

Design and Features

  • Front: Features the classic Phra Pidta image—Buddha covering His eyes, representing the closing off of the six sense doors to focus on inner purity and detachment.

  • Shape: Crafted in the shape of a Bodhi leaf, symbolizing awakening, wisdom, and protection.

  • Back: May feature simple temple marks or sacred yant inscriptions in some versions.

  • Material: Typically created from sacred powders prepared by Luang Phor, including:

    • Phong Wahn (sacred herbs)

    • Phong Bailan (burnt palm-leaf scripture)

    • Incense ash from chanting ceremonies

    • Crushed sacred items from previous batches

Each amulet was hand-pressed in small molds and dried naturally, with some baked or blessed in large batches during important ceremonies.

Blessing Ceremony

The Phra Pidta Bai Po was consecrated in B.E. 2518 during one of the temple’s formal Phutthaphisek (consecration) ceremonies. Highlights of the ritual included:

  • Luang Phor Ruesi Lingdam performing solo and group chanting

  • Empowerment through Vipassana and Kasina meditation

  • Use of Pali and Khmer yants to invoke protection and metta

  • The ceremony lasted several days and was joined by faithful disciples and monks

This period (early 2510s to mid-2520s) is considered Luang Phor’s peak spiritual period, especially for amulets made during intense meditation retreats.

Spiritual Significance

Phra Pidta Bai Po is believed to offer:

  • Klaew Klad – protection from accidents, harm, and unseen forces

  • Metta Mahaniyom – kindness, personal charm, social favor

  • Serm Duang – fortune enhancement and life stability

  • Samadhi support – beneficial for those who practice meditation or seek mental clarity

It is especially revered among laypeople and businesspersons, as well as serious practitioners of Dhamma.

Rarity and Collector Interest

  • Highly sought after by collectors of:

    • Wat Tha Sung amulets
