History

Phra Pidta Khao Tom Ma Lang Yant Nur Phong (พระปิดตาข้าวต้มมัด หลังยันต์ เนื้อผง)

Year of Creation:

B.E. 2517 (1974 CE)

Creator:

Luang Pu Si Chantasiri (หลวงปู่สี ฉันทสิริ)

Wat Tham Khao Bunnak, Nakhon Sawan Province

Background and Purpose:

The amulet was created during Luang Pu Si’s final decade to raise funds for temple renovations and to support monastic activities. B.E. 2517 marks one of the last major blessing ceremonies in which Luang Pu Si participated actively, making this batch especially rare and significant.

Luang Pu Si, known for his deep meditative attainments and mastery of the forest tradition, created the Phra Pidta in the style known as “Khao Tom Ma” (steamed sticky rice parcel), which refers to the tightly bundled body posture of the Buddha image depicted in the amulet, symbolizing complete mental seclusion and invincibility.

Design Characteristics:

  • Front: Features the traditional Phra Pidta posture, with both hands covering the face in the gesture of withdrawal from worldly distractions.

  • Back: Impressed with sacred Yant (yantra), symbolizing protection and spiritual empowerment.

  • Shape: Oval or rice-pod shaped, resembling a bundled sticky rice offering (hence the name “Khao Tom Ma”).

  • Size: Small and compact, making it suitable for everyday wear.

Material (Nur Phong):

The amulets were made from a mixture of sacred powders, including:

  • Phong Ittijay and Phong Pattamung (chanting powders)

  • Phong Bailan (burnt sacred scripture powder)

  • Powdered flower offerings and incense ash from long-term meditation sessions

  • Holy relic dust from older amulets and votive tablets

  • Mixed with wax drippings and candle smoke from extensive chanting rituals

The resulting texture is usually soft to medium-hard, with colors ranging from off-white to beige or brown depending on the preservation and mixture ratio.

Consecration Ceremony:

The amulets were blessed through a multi-day consecration (phutthaphisek) held at Wat Tham Khao Bunnak. The ceremony was marked by:

  • Continuous recitation of protective katha by Luang Pu Si

  • Empowerment using the Vipassana kammathana tradition

  • Solitary meditation sessions by Luang Pu Si inside the cave (Tham) where he resided, infusing the amulets with meditative energy

Due to his age and attainments, Luang Pu Si’s spiritual force was believed to be at its peak during this period.

Spiritual Beliefs:

The Phra Pidta Khao Tom Ma Lang Yant amulet is revered for the following properties:

  • Klaew Klaad – Protection from danger, accidents, and misfortune

  • Metta Mahaniyom – Kindness and popularity, especially in interpersonal relationships

  • Kongkrapan – Invulnerability against physical harm and black magic

  • Mindfulness and Mental Focus – Aided by the symbolism of sealing the senses (covering the eyes)

Rarity and Collectibility:

  • This batch is extremely rare, as only a limited number were made during Luang Pu Si’s lifetime.

  • Genuine pieces are difficult to find and often kept within families or passed among serious practitioners.

  • The soft but spiritually potent Nur Phong makes this amulet highly sought-after for both spiritual protection and collector value.

Final Notes:

Luang Pu Si passed away in B.E. 2526 (1983 CE) at the age of around 134 years. This Phra Pidta is one of the most iconic amulets attributed to him and is considered to encapsulate the spiritual essence of his over 100 years of monkhood and deep forest practice.
